Chiharu Shiota is one of my all-time favorite artists, as well my top 10 contemporary artists. I love installation art, so when I ran into her works at Art Basel many years ago, I instantly fell in love with them.
I only have one rule I set out for myself for the works made under the GymDreams8 identity — they must always contain a male figure. With my “After” series, I wanted to make AI works based on the works of artists that I respect.
Chiharu Shiota is most known for her “cobweb installations” — where she suspends objects in the air through red wires — so I tried suspending a male figure in the air with red wires also.
I want to keep the figure relatively plain and monochromatic, so there are really only two choices — either nude or latex. I picked latex because I can’t post nudes anywhere on social media.
I never posted the full set anywhere because I was not entirely sure how these images will be interpreted. I intend these to be an art installation concept, though I’m well aware that not everyone would feel this way.
