Liquor Poster - Kiss
One of the funnest aspect of AI art is the remix of subject matters and styles, and turning them into new works that are both familiar and unexpected. These illustrations are remixes of a combination of things: the layout of a liquor poster, the body type of men by J. C. Leyendecker, the bold and saturated colors, the mid-century designs that reminds you of the past, and the men wearing polished latex, a clothing material in modern times. All of these together create a unique signature that mix so many aspects that feel both old and new together.
Unstable Diffusion
If I had come up with this unique blend fo visual excitement, I would be so proud. Yet I couldn’t take all the credits for the combination of creation. A lot of the keywords which inspired this series of images came from the AI ping-pongs on the men-only channel of the Unstable Diffusion Discord server, where members of channel took text prompts from the images posted by each other and breath new lives into each other’s works.
UD has a bot that natively read the metadata from the images posted, and show you the prompts and technical details used to render the images. You can then take those prompts and work with them and post back to the channel. I don’t have a fast GPU to actively participate in these activities, though I enjoy watching the men do it, and I often then take some of these ideas, and try to make new works out of them.
Remember those Reference Posters I posted about Jockstrap, Futuristic Warrior and the Police? All of them depended on a single keyword reference poster
as the main keyword in the text prompt, which I picked up from UD. I evolved that concept into something different, but I would never have considered that keyword on my own. A lot of the activities on UD is like that. Mostly just gay men having fun with AI generation. It’s a really great community to be a part of.
AI Ping-Pong
If these images remind you of the “Man Tart poster” posted by @mid_bi_west or a “risograph print” by @zakalwe404, that’s because these were not coincidences at all — parts of my text prompts were based on images that they had posted, though I’ve added my own blend of twists to the prompts.
Where they were riffing on how to make illustrations with flat colors, I responded mostly to the bold colors and settings — tapas bar, mid-century style, and liquor poster. Who knew that would be a combo?
Where they removed detail by using negative numbers on the Add Detail Lora to get figures that are void of shading, I dialed up mine so they go into another direction. Where they portrayed a single person sipping liquor at a tapas bar, I decided to portray couples having a by-chance meeting at the bar.
Community
Text-prompt ping-pongs like these happen all the time on Unstable Diffusion. It’s part of what makes it such a great community — with members who are so generous with their time and creativity.
I dare say that I would not have gotten so far with Stable Diffusion had it not been the thoughtful and helpful discussions with the people who are active on the men-only channel, both publicly on the server and privately through DMs.
I’m also really glad to have been able to chat with the creators behind many of the popular checkpoint models that are used by so many gay AI artists you see on Instagram and Twitter — Scratchproof, Virile Fusion; Airfuck, Airfuck’s Wild Mix.
People
You know what the greatest part is? Besides the fact that everyone is so creative and inspiring, these are the funniest guys I’ve ever met on the internet. So even when I get a bit busy, I would often go to the channel just to see what they’ve been up to, and what crazy creations that they have shared.
Prompts
And if that’s not enough to convince you to join, I get so inspired by the text prompts that people use. You’ll likely never see “thicc” men like these in my works that I came up with myself. I think that these renders would get one “coach” on Instagram very happy, only because there were some highly specific keywords that ask for larger size peaches somewhere in the prompt — something that I personally will never do had I come up with the prompt myself. I left them in all of these renders… just because.
