Yellow Chair Variations, after The Chair No. 2 by Elias Avramidis
After Series
- 5The Fall of Man, after Titian, c.1550
- 6Modern Day Myth and Mythology, after Ben Fink, 2023
- 7Wave (SOTT), after Tom of Finland, 1974
- 10The Fall of Man, after Titian, c.1550
These are reimagined variations based on the painting series done for The Chair No. 2 by Elias Avramidis.
Instead of closely adhering to the composition of the original work by Elias, I took the essence of what I saw from his work, and recomposed the paintings in entirely new ways.
The elements that I picked up are:
- a yellow chair
- a Greek man in shorts
- wallpaper in blue and white with strong geometric pattern detail
- wooden floors
I took the opportunity to address the issues that were privately shared with me regarding the first painting series. One concern was that the man depicted didn't look Greek, and another was that he appeared overly muscular.
In addition to addressing these concerns, I decided to create this new series to highlight a less apparent aspect of my AI works.
I often receive inquiries about whether the men I portray are real individuals. The truth is that they often are, but they are not exact replicas of the person. If you were to compare photographs of the men I depict with the way they are portrayed in my images, you would notice that they are not identical. This is because they are not meant to be look-alikes.
Instead, my intention is to capture the essence of the person being depicted. To help you understand this concept, imagine describing someone to a friend. You might mention their age, height, preferred clothing style, way of speaking, and mannerisms. Based on your description, your friend will form a mental image of that person. It is highly likely that the image in their head will not match the person you have seen before, but it will closely align with the attributes you described.
This is precisely the process I employ when recreating the individuals in my renders. I extract the essence of what I see in these men and visually interpret those attributes in my artwork.
These paintings are still in progress, intended to showcase a range of possibilities. While there are some issues with the limbs and other aspects, fixing them completely would require a significant amount of time. Instead, I have addressed them to a level where they are not distracting, although they are not flawless. I have made a note of this in my brand overlay, labeling them as workflow copies.
