Demystifying the magic behind image prompts inside Midjourney

Image prompt is one of the best features in Midjourney. If you’re not using it, you should.

Often, it’s this source image that gives the most influence to the final look and feel. You never truly know what Midjourney would pick up on, so having options is helpful. If the first image you tried didn’t get the results you want, try the other options. Highly detailed images with complex forms tend to give results that are also themselves highly intricate.

For these organic sculptural forms of men, the source prompt for the image was relatively straight forward:

Use the resulting image with text to describe your scene to get the final look. Adjust image weight lower or higher as needed. For example, for these generations of men, since the source image is not a human figure, I found that it’s helpful to use --iw 0.5 so the final image will not become a plant. But if that’s what you wanted, then by all means, stick with --iw 1 or push it further with --iw 2.

If the image itself already has a figure, MJ tends to pick up on how the character look, making it harder to just pick up the clothes. So for generations involving figures, I tend not to include a face unless it’s the exact face I’m looking for.
